Chahda steps up into Dunlop Series

Albury driver Matt Chahda steps up into the V8 Supercars Dunlop Series for 2015, after contesting the Kumho V8 Touring Car series last year.

Part of the rookie session opening the 2015 Clipsal 500, Chahda came home fifth out of the 11 first-timers at the Adelaide street track in the category.

A range of existing sponsors have come in the V8 Supercars Dunlop Series with the 21-year old, with Cavalier Homes also joining the team as a major backer.

For the first three rounds of the Series, contested at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, Perth and Winton, Chahda will compete with experienced Dunlop Series team RSport Race Engineering.

Stepping into theRsport #11 VE II Holden Commodore, Chahda – who finished first in the H-pattern class and fourth overall in the V8 Touring Car series – was thrilled to race a car with such a racing pedigree.

“A Perkins Engineering built car that took Rick Kelly to great success in 2009-10 is a big pair of shoes to fill and I’m hoping to channel some of his success this year,” he said.

While the Rsport deal came together late in the piece, it allowed the young driver to test the Commodore at Winton earlier this week.

“The test allowed me to settle into the Commodore package, build a relationship with the Rsportengineering team and get a feel for driving with the sequential gearbox, having only had experience with the H-Pattern previously,” he explained.

“I’m under no illusions how big the step into the Dunlop Series will be and will be aiming on finishing every race and building on my pace as the season progresses.”

Rsport team owner Mark Robertson praised Chahda, ahead of the season opening Clipsal 500.

“We’re very excited to have Matt join us for the new season,” Robertson said.

“He is a talented young driver and we wish him great success.”

Twenty-eight entries will contest the Clipsal 500, which consists of two 19-lap races.
